Advice from a former Cardio Queen:
tanadoeslife:
If you really really want to change the way your body looks, then you have to HAVE to lift weights. Cardio will only get you so far.
You will gain muscle, but, NO!, weights will NOT make you bulky.
It took me a very long time to figure that out, but I’m so glad I finally did.
Yes! So much yes!!
In New York
Nearly 50,000 people are preparing for a day they will remember forever.
Best of luck to all of you running the NYC Marathon 2011!! I will be cheering you on from Arkansas.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Cardinals?
Wow.
Just wow. You are forgiven.
Dear StL Cardinals,
I really need you to win tonight.
If you do, I might could forgive the fact that I drove 6 hours only to learn the game was postponed and then had to turn around and drive home the next day, missing the game I had intended to see.
I know I used to live in TX, but still. I’ve been a lifelong StL fan. Tried and true even during my Tejas days.
You guys can do this. I have faith....

Blown away...
I have a family member competing in a 100 mile race this weekend and he’s currently in 2nd place about halfway through.
How are we related?!?

Things that make me laugh..
My brother still uses the “poke” function on Facebook to poke me any chance he can.
I forgot it existed.

Every time I sneeze
Nala comes to check on me no matter what she’s doing or how far away she is. Every. Single. Time.

Contributor Post
Please say hi to the newest Your Nutritionista contributor, Ella Q. Ella dwells in L.A. and works at what she calls a “super fancy” gym. She busies herself by indulging her inner science nerd researching metabolism and baking (she’s even considered pastry school!). Today, Ella’s extolling the virtues of efficient exercise, something I’m a huge fan of. I don’t...

Nothing quite like the feeling
Of stepping outside and feeling like you’re walking between 1000’s of hair dryers blowing hot air on you.
Ah, summer in the south. :-/
I'm not a huge sports fan*
But last night, I was in Dallas with some great friends watching the Mavs win the NBA Finals and I couldn’t help but be pretty stinkin’ excited. The fireworks and crazy folks hanging out of cars was infectious to watch.
Way to go, Mavs! Well-deserved win.
*with the exception of the St. Louis Cardinals.
Guess who did squats with her body weight today?
This girl.

So far today..
Jogged 2 miles with Nala, crossfitted (sumo deadlifts and pushups), watered the lawn, trip to the bank, vacuumed.
And it’s just now 9am!
Our fatigue is often caused not by work, but by worry, frustration and...

You know you're a nurse when..
You wipe down the equipment at the gym and reach for a glove to pull off around your cleaning wipe.
(at work I always reverse my glove over my trash. but at the gym you aren’t wearing a glove…)
A Scary Tail/Update
Yesterday morning, I woke up at 5am to Nala sniffing around my dresser. I didn’t think much of it and let her outside for her morning ritual. As I laid back down in bed to get a few more minutes of sleep before the alarm, I heard a noise. Where did that come from? Around the dresser? IN the dresser? I opened a dresser drawer and there was A MOUSE just chilling on top of my jeans. He ran when...
Things that are not awesome
Mosquito bites on your face.
Guess what I just signed up for?
It’s basically a 5K with these obstacles throughout.
Sounds awesome, right?

It’s funny how you get used to paces.
When I started marathon training, I was at a 12+min/mile pace. And very happy about it.
I finished a marathon in December under an 11 min/mile pace. I was honestly shocked with myself.
Last month, I ran a 10 mile run at a 9:46min/mile pace. I finally learned to believe in myself and push towards a goal I felt was unattainable.
Yesterday, as a warm-up...
Happy Nurses Day!
To all of you nurses out there!
Fun facts:
May 6th is International Nurses Day and the start of Nurses Week
Nurses week is May 6-12
It ends on May 12th because it is Florence Nightingale’s (or “Flo” as we so lovingly referred to her in nursing school) birthday
30 minutes of yoga
At 5:30am!
Oot!!
Today, I had a date with Jeremy
He was sweet and charming and handsome and we rode off in the sunset in a horse-drawn carriage as we made google-eyes at one another.
Just kidding.
Jeremy was today’s WOD consisting of 21-15-9 reps of overhead squats (45#) and burpees. It took me 26 minutes to complete. I thought I might fall over from exhaustion. Counting the warm up, I spent 50 minutes in the gym today. Definitely the...

In work out news..
I didn’t make it to the gym today, but I did do lunges the length of my backyard 4x (~120 lunges).
Gotta take what you can get some days.
Well, hello Fran!
Nice to see you again.
Today, I did the CF workout named “Fran” (21-15-9 reps of Thrusters and Pullups for time with 45#). She about killed me. It’s the first time I’ve felt nauseous during a workout. It’s also the first time I’ve workout in 6 days. It’s amazing how much you can start to feel like a slug in such a short time.
Glad to be back.
